Young Farmers and Ranchers Conference

More than 250 young farmers from across the state attended the 2008 North Carolina Farm Bureau (NCFB) YF&R Conference, January 26th and 27th. The event was held at the Crabtree Marriott and the theme of this year's conference was 'Becoming an Agricultural Leader...Priceless.' Young farmers were offered the opportunity to participate in a number of educational workshops, covering everything from public speaking to speaking out for agriculture. NCFB President Larry Wooten spoke to the group during lunch and urged them to get involved and stay involved in Farm Bureau as well as the political process. Wooten told the young farmers that involvement was the best way to protect their livelihood and way of life.

YF&R Chairman Brooks Edmondson introduced Discussion Meet winner Andy VonCanon of Transylvania County, who was also a finalist in the American Farm Bureau YF&R Discussion Meet in New Orleans. Also addressing the group was YF&R Achievement Award winner Donny Lassiter of Northampton County. Lassiter represented North Carolina in the American Farm Bureau YF&R Achievement Award competition in New Orleans as well.
