The state women's committee also raised $5,200 through a silent auction and prize drawing for Patty Vogt, of Louisiana. She suffered tremendous loss during hurricane Katrina. Women's committee members donated more than 175 items for the auction.
Conference sessions dealt with the following topics: leadership development, how smart couples can finish rich, various state and national legislative issues, Ag in the Classroom (AITC) and health and safety issues.
Donya Lester, an Indiana farm wife and executive secretary for the Purdue Agricultural Alumni Association, was the featured speaker. Lester presented a comical and inspirational program entitled, "Farm Income is an Oxymoron."
Lester's husband, Daniel Gwin, is a successful specialty grain producer who has been paralyzed from the waist down since a farm accident in 1988.
