R. Flake Shaw Scholarship

One of the most important services we make available to our members is leadership development. There is no question that education is an important component of leadership. Providing opportunities for our future leaders to obtain an education, then, is an integral part of our fulfilling Farm Bureau’s mission.

We are proud that, since 1967, we have awarded over $3,000,000 in scholarships to deserving young people. The evidence of their successful involvement in our industry confirms the importance of the R. Flake Shaw Scholarship Program. The program pays dividends year after year to Farm Bureau and to our state.

The R. Flake Shaw Scholarship Program now offers:

  1. a total of twenty-four scholarships valued at $3,750 per year for four years of study at a college or university in an agriculturally-related curricula. Six new scholarships are awarded each spring.
  2. a total of four scholarships valued at $1,000 per year for two years of study at a community college to receive an associate degree in an agriculturally-related field or to prepare for transfer to a college or university. Two new scholarships are awarded each spring.

Eligibility requirements and application deadlines are clearly outlined in the scholarship applications for community colleges and colleges/universities. Should you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Janice Noffsinger at (919) 782-1705.

We urge every county Farm Bureau to encourage participation in our scholarship program among the young people in their communities and be a part of preparing agriculture for the future.
